At the Big Black River Bridge, Vaughn’s brigade faced the 21st and 23rd Iowa regiments.

Lieutent Colonel Nathan Gregg surrendered the battle flag of his 60th Tennessee which had been cut off from the bridges.

The 61st Tennessee surrendered its regimental flag along with 288 of its 400 men.
