The silk for this first issue battleflag was gathered from various sources throughout the
Richmond area. Every shade of red and pink was needed to complete the 100 odd flags
that were needed. The shades of color as well as the quality of dyes led to the variants
of colors that we see today. They were different then and they are different now.
The surviving flags run the gamult from bright red to so pale a pink as to look white.
