Re: N.Y.S.V Flag captured, impossible?

The "Official" count of captured Union flags, was "Eight". The Union did admit that these regiments were captured: 15th Mass, 19th Mass, 42nd NY, 59th NY and 82nd NY.

Out of all of those regiments, only the 59th NY and 82nd NY, I have found nothing on that claims they lost a flag.

The Irish Brigade was on the extreme left of the 2nd Corps. With the 116th PA on the extreme left. The 116th PA had their fair share of Pows.

BG. Pierce's brigade was formed left to right: 1st Minn Battalion, 19th Maine, 19th Mass, 42nd NY, 82nd NY, 15th Mass, 59th NY, 20th Mass, 36th Wis and 7th Mich.

All of those regiments were very tiny, hence why so many in the brigade. The 1st Minnesota was a two company battalion, one company remained and one company was recruited.

On the left of BG. Pierce's brigade, was the "Philadelphia Brigade". The 72nd PA connected with the 1st Minn. The 69th PA and 71st PA were in the middle and the 106th PA on the far left. The 106th PA lost 92 men.

The 36th Wisconsin had many men captured. In the 19th Maine they did not lose a flag, they also had many members from the old 4th Maine in the regiment.

The total was around 2,500 captured Union soldiers, Eight flags, 4-5 pieces of Captain McKnight's 12th New York battery.

Have a good day,
