That Charleston museum is like being in a candy store. It reminds me of that old photo of The Maryland Soldiers Home. The UDC collection on The Blvd. in Richmond is breathtaking too. But not open to the casual visitor. If it weren't for those ladies, would there be anything left? Those places are what you and I, and people our age (sorry) think of when we go to visit a museum. I was so tempted to cut the flash off on my camera as I knew that I could have gotten some pictures in Charleston that would make fellow compatriots drool. But....I didn't. They had a small group tour going on that had the staff occupied. They had flags in there, hanging on the wall (framed and under glass)the likes of which you would have to make an appointment to see at the MOC. It's a shame that so many treasures are relegated to vaults and safes, only available for viewing by the select few scholars and researchers that can "get in" so to speak. I have a "Brother" at the MOC if there is anything you would ever like to see. ;-) Will The Signal Corps be at Bentonville in March? Third Richmond Howitzers will be doing their best to portray Kelly's Battery, Chesterfield Light Artillery of South Carolina on Saturday and Battery B, First Michigan Light Artillery on Sunday. Gonna be a big one. Confederate registration is closed but Federals can register up until they have to "walk on". About 2500 participants so far. I'm hoping for a little "moderation" in the weather. haha.
