The newspaper description seems creditable, evidently no Confederate military command being present -- just Rucker, Mrs. Leedy and a few citizens from the town. Sounds like nothing more than a modest token of appreciation - no large public ceremony or speeches &c. As for the reference to Rucker's 6th Brigade, the ladies of Aberdeen must not have been aware that more than a month earlier it had been "dissolved", as Forrest put it. We can be sure that Rucker had no desire to embarrass or confuse his well-wishers.
