Thank you for the informative info RD..I only wish we knew then what we know now so we could have asked our Grandparents more interesting questions.

Mules have always fascinated me. Ive seen a few big ones at the sale barn and have been tempted to buy one just to observe its habits. There are probably few left now but Mules were so important years ago and during the war.

As I understand it Mules could pull the wagons but not artillery as they would go absolutely nuts under fire. Perhaps a Mule was more intelligent then a horse?

Have also heard that big fat American horses and perhaps Mules had to have grain or oats to do good work but the small Texas mustangs could go all day on grass.

Do recollect my GF said they were too poor to buy feed and used 2 mules to plow. One till noon and turned him loose to graze,then the other for the rest of the day.

And Oxen. Now theres another fascinating animal I would like to observe.
