Re: 2nd Arkansas Commander's

If you haven't ever seen this, I think you will find it very interesting.

From the Jefferson County Historical Quarterly Vol.6 No.2 (1975);
http://online.flipbuilder.com/digitalpbjc/otiw/index.html#p=34

Details come straight from Bocage's memoirs as to his relationship with Hindman, the 2nd Ark, Hardee, etc.

There is mention of a confrontation between Hindman and Bocage regarding who should be second in command of the regiment.

He also mentions his own promotion from Lt. Col to Col. while in Kentucky.

Also in this article; more details as to the presentation of the 2nd Ark's first regimental flag by Varina Davis as well as some details into the 2nd's excursion into Missouri prior to heading off to Kentucky in 1861.

I think too it is interesting that the regiment was so upset with having a non-Arkansas commander in Fall of 1861. Because by the end of Summer 1862, multiple colonel's from different Ark regiments were just clamoring for old St. John to be their Brigade general (including the 2nd, now led by Govan) (Liddel's Record, 1985). It speaks volumes to how in very short period of time, opinions can change....given the horror at Shiloh, and the re-org following.....I think our Arkansas boys were starting to wise up.
