Doyle, my thought on this is Danville is not far from Dardanelle on the Arkansas River, and Dardanelle was a river port and a major crossing for both sides during the war. Some of these 32 pounders may have been moved from the riverport for some unknown reason with no intention as ordinance, as you can't fire a cannonball like this until the sprue has been ground off. It would blow the tube too pieces in that state. If this is true then there should be more of these odd balls in the Danville area. Gunboats on the river could have fired these balls with the right gun and once the balls were made serviceable. Just a thought.
