Yes I have read these reports. And have been involved in erecting historical markers at Longview and the Mt Elba battlefield and union pursuit of Wrights Confederate Cavalry to the Big Creek bridge between Mt Elba and Centerville.

I am not convinced that there was actually very much Confederate Infantry at Longview. Post war stories seemed to suggest that most of the men there were engaged in unloading a steamer of corn along with a supply and baggage train headed to Camden. The Steamer was not captured as once it became appearent what was happening the crew slipped it mooring and allowed the boat to drift downstream to be hidden in some rushes. the Union Cavalry raiding party only consisted of about 50 men and were only able to surprise the 320 confederates because the Confederate assumed that the Union soldiers were a party of Wright cavalry that had just passed through and were returning for some reason. The fact that so many Confederates were captured unaware by so few Union soldiers would seem to indicate that these Confederates were not organized Infantry, but laborers and teamsters. Which may account for the lack of official muster rolls. However at that period (March 1864) there are few surviving Confederate muster rolls.
