The Arkansas in the Civil War Message Board

Alexander Papers

Danny Odom recently redirected me to the Alexander Papers, which contain the Telegraph corrispondance from Hindman's Headquarters in the summer of 1862. They are hosted on the Missouri Secretary of State's Website under the "Home Community and Conflict - the Impact of the Civil War in the Ozarks" section.

I had been aware that General Hindman's copybooks were there. These were the records maintained by the General's Adjutant of all incoming and out going corrispondance.

I had not realized that there are so many other documents included in the collection. The website has images of the actual Telegrams writen on the Arkansas State Telegraph Line Letter Head. Many of these telegrams are not contained in the copybooks.

These telegraphs are a treasure trove of information on Hindman's organizaiton of forces in the summer of 1862 and on his efforts to oppose Curtis's invasion that summer.
