Thomas L. Shepherd died over two months before the consolidation of the 11th and 17th Arkansas took place. The December 31, 1862, muster roll of the consolidated regiment covered the period from August 1 to December 31, 1862. Several soldiers mentioned on that roll never actually made the transfer from the 11th Arkansas to the consolidated regiment, having been discharged, died or deserted before the consolidation. The roll sort of brought things up to date and tied up loose ends, noting changes which occurred since August 1, 1862, and dropping from said roll those men who were no longer with the 11th Arkansas or the consolidated 11th & 17th Arkansas.
