Thanks Bryan. It is interesting to note that in the CSR records of one of Pickens' officers (John M. Patton, filed under the 15th Northwest Infantry), there is a reference to him later being a Lieutenant in Company G of Crabtree's Arkansas Cavalry and being captured on 25 October 1864. This is confirmed in Patton's CSR records for the 46th (Crabtree's) Cavalry. In another record filed under the 15th Northwest Infantry, he is stated to have been conscripted into the 48th Arkansas Cavalry rising to 1st Lieutenant until his capture in October 1864. Another possible link between Crabtree's 46th and the mysterious 48th?
