I own every book there is on the Atlanta Campaign since I grew up in Georgia and have led numerous tours of the campaign over the years. To date, the late Bill Scaife's book has the finest maps for the battles and he lays over the troops movements on the modern road net so you can stand where these actions took place.

He has Reynold's Brigade driving NE from their starting point in the CS outer line across what is now I-75 and then to the left of Howell Mill Road across from where Mt. Zion Church stands today (as it did - in another building - during the war). As they got to the intersection of Howell Mill and Collier Drive they turned more to the right and into the deep ravine (which is still there) and seemingly penetrated no further. To their left flank would have been Knipe's and Robinson's Brigades of Alpheus Williams' Division and two artillery batteries. Robinson's Brigade's left flank was against what is now Northside Drive with Jones' Brigade of Geary's Division across the road to the east. I am sure that Reynolds received fire from these three Union brigades and their batteries.

That's still really rough terrain for any attack to deal with - far better to be on the defense there.

There is a forthcoming book on Peachtree Creek and I have some of the maps for it but am not at liberty to share them - the book will be out soon enough. Scaife's maps were based on walking the fields and the older Wilbur Kurtz maps done in the 1940s. Kurtz then was the dean of Atlanta Campaign historians.
