The Arkansas in the Civil War Message Board

Re: Camden Expedition
In Response To: Camden Expedition ()

Probably about two years ago I gave a detail of Steele's retreat route from Jenkins Ferry to Little Rock along the Camden Road on this message board. It should still be in an archival thread on this message board somewhere. But here is the basic route with a lot less details. They headed north from Jenkins Ferry they crossed Hwy 291 about a half mile west of Hwy 46 as they came out of the Saline River bottoms. Traveling north and slightly east they crossed Hwy 270 about half way between Sherdian and Prattsville at a place called Whitten's Mill. They continued north by Belfast and on north along the edge of Bryant. They crossed I-30 there and linked up on the Stagecoach Road at or near Collegeville. From there they followed the Stagecoach Road on in to Little Rock. They were met at Fouche Creek and Stagecoach Road with food and supplies out of Little Rock,. to revive one worn out federal army. Then they made their finial leg of the trip in to Little Rock.
