Hi Tim,

I am so glad you email me. I don't know much about grandma's father. He is buried at the Sulpfur cemetary next to grandma's mom. I think his middle name might be Edgar. I think this might be who my Uncle Ed is name after. Edgar Turner Robinson moma's older brother. I will look at some stuff I found and get back with you. I went to Praire Grove battlefield in Arkansas this summer. This is our great great grandfather Holland. He is buried in Sulpfur too. So is our great great grandmother. Polly Ann (I believe her name was Mary Ann)and she by the name Polly Nelson Holland. Our great great grandfather was in the journal below. They were from Searcy Arkansas. Do you have this? The link below is. :http://www.agsgenealogy.org/databases/pdffiles/AFH/AFH224Dec1984.pdf . Look at pages 206, 207 208 & 209. It talks about William Rufus Holland.
In this article they called him a man of mystery I remember people talking about not knowing much about him. I remember Uncle Jesse, grandma use to watch Ricky after school. Uncle Jesse, use to called grandmother's grandkids scamp, oppossum (my cousin Wanda) & polecat. He was tall I remember him talking about getting a long couch so he could lay down on. Glenda

Unfortunately I haven’t been able to find anything about William Rufus Holland. That story I read earlier mentioned Crabtree’s Arkansas Cavalry (sometimes called either the 46th Arkansas Mounted Infantry) but there is no mention of him in the rosters I have. That said the rosters for that regiment are incomplete. There is a William G. Holland who is listed, that was captured in 1864, and died in the 1880’s, but no William R. Here is the link to the story I mentioned to you earlier.

I would recommend that you go to the Arkansas in the Civil War Message Board (link below) and post a query (it’s free). Put his name as the subject line, and then in the body say that you’re looking for him (list full name, born 1848 in GA, etc.) and that his widow’s pension application (in Oklahoma) states that he was in Crabtree’s Arkansas Regiment but that you can’t find any record. There’s a guy on there named Bryan Howerton who is the resident expert on individual Arkansas soldiers and if ANYBODY has anything on this guy, Bryan will. http://history-sites.com/cgi-bin/bbs53x/arcwmb/webbbs_config.pl

Hope that helps and let me know if I can be of further assistance.
