There is some indication that Crawford's Infantry Battalion may have consisted of more that just two companies. But again records are so scant that it is difficult to determine if this is a fact or not.

We do know of the two companies because of surviving muster rolls. But Crawford's Battalion was supposedly made up of the extra company of Grinstead's 33rd Arkansas and supposedly Dawson's 19th Arkansas after the formation of Portlock's 24th Arkansas out of Whittington Battalion and Dawson's 19th. It is also known that the other recorded company of Crawford's Battalion was made up of local conscripts from Jefferson County.

The 33rd Arkansas came to White Sulphur Springs as an over strenght Regiment of 11 Companies, the 19th Arkansas came to White Sulphur Springs also as an over strenght Regiment of 10 companies with 110 to 130 men per company. Portlock's 24th Arkansas was formed primarily out of the sick of the 19th Arkansas and hence the intermixing of muster roll records. But only 1 Company of conscripts (co "B" Crawford's batt.) can be determined as being raised from conscripts of Jefferson County or for that matter anywhere else in the area. A curiousity is why only one company from Jefferson County.
