One thing though, Crawford never actually took command of the Inf Battalion. He soon began as a cavalry commander as documented in his letters to his wife of that time period. His regiment officially came in to being late 1863 but he was active and in the field with the core of the unit prior to that. What men actually mustered were captured at Ark Post and the rest became part of 24th/Hardy's regiment.
