I agree, there is a lot. I've worked on this for over 5 years. My list is over 10,700 listed names, with over 180 sources to document each entry, and comprises almost 300 pages. Each entry has the following info, if available: last name, first name, company, Regiment, Brigade, Corps, and any info available on the individual. Each name has been compared to the Compiled Service Records, as that is the only agreed upon listing to verify names, and even those records are incomplete. I've consulted the National Archives, State Archives, University Libraries, Internet, Census Records, Adjuntant General Reports, regimental histories, and numerous primary sources.
My goal in these posts is to see if people have kept letters,diaries,journals, historical society articles, etc... that may have previously unpublished/unknown information I've not seen to cite in the work. My intention is to make sure the list is as accurate as possible, and that these sources may hold the key to some family knowing what happened to their ancestor.
I've had some publishers show interest, but I'm hoping that there may be some grants available to get the research completed so it can be shared with everyone.
To that end, the 8th Arkansas is definitely a regiment that took a beating, and my list has 117 names for the 8th. So, any info would be greatly appreciated. Also, is George S. Pearce any kin as well? I noted he's in the same company as Jerimah "Jerry" D. Pearce, Ord. Sgt. for 8th AR.
