Thank you for the information Rick! This corroborates what I have so far. I know that his wife, Arrena was widowed by at least 1870 because Federal Census's show this. There is a U.S Civil War Veterans gravesite for a William B Smith with death listed as 04/28/1869. Your records make more sense because an Alabama 1866 State Census shows an Arrena Dean with 1 boy under ten (my 2nd Great grandfather James H. Smith) and two daughters under 10, but no adult male. It makes more sense that he never came home from the war.

Again thank you for the information Rick, did it come from the book I mentioned or your own sources? If anyone else thinks they have some info that would be useful to me please let me know!
