17th Alabama, CO "C"

I have posted previously about my Great-grandfather, Tapley K Hendricks, who served in the 17th AL INF. CO "C". Mr Alan Pitts furnished me with a copy of Tapley's service record. On this record was the only notation: "died hospital, Jan. 11, 1862. Thereafter, I attempted to locate information about where Tapley was buried. I centered my research in the Pensacola area since the 17th was based there in January of '62. I was never able to find any documentation about Tapley being buried in any of the cemeteries in Pensacola. Recently I stumbled upon other documentation that has me completly stumped. Maybe someone on here can head me in the right direction.

I went on the Bureau of Land Management web site and did a search for alabama land records under "Hendricks" I got a hit on "Tapley K Hendrick" in which he obtained land in Monroe Co. Alabama on 11/21/ 1896. Documentaion was for the land office in Greenville, alabama. This can't be I thought since Tapley supposedly died "in the hospital, 11 Jan., 1862". Can anyone on the board help me with this apparent contradiction in documentation. I have tried to figure out what is going on here but have no clue as to how to figure this out. I have documentation stating his death and I have documentation stating his acquiring land 34 years later! Obviously, something is wrong here.

Thanks for anyone's help.

Rick Hendricks
