In Response To: 17th Alabama, CO "C" ()

Rick,
I have followed your question and the responses. I live in Monroe County and am familiar with the Hendrix spelling of the name. My g-g grandfather's 1st wife was a Hendrix. I am also aware of the Hendricks spelling from various county records.

If you will furnish the land description, I will check at the courthouse on my next trip. All I need is Section, Township and Range.

The Hendrix family is an old Monroe County name. They were largely responsible for the settlement of Monroeville and, later, Igo, a community that was absorbed by Jones Mill (today, Frisco City) when it was incorporated in 1909.

It was Peter Hendrix who donated the land where the Baptist Church was constructed and where Gen. Chrysler's Federal troops encamped after raiding Monroeville. A few days later, Lucas' troops moved in from Claiborne and almost destroyed Monroeville.
