Hayes,

There were three infantry units that at one time or another were referred to at the 5th Battalion.

Van de Graaff's - this was the first one fought in Virginia in Archer's Brigade
Golladay's - Consolidated with 2nd (Davis'-Chadwick's) Alabama Infantry Battalion, 3 April 1862; designated 26th Alabama Infantry (Coltart's) Regiment (afterwards 50th Alabama Infantry Regiment
Blount's - On December 27, 1861, members enlisted for twelve months service at Ashville, Alabama. Serving as Company “A”, Blount’s 5th Alabama Infantry Battalion, the command was dissolved on April 28, 1862. Officers and men merged with others from Company “G” to form Company “L”, 18th Alabama Infantry Regiment. Reforming on March 2, 1863, they later served as Company “A”, 9th Alabama Infantry Battalion and later Company "A", 58th Alabama Infantry Regiment.
