Hayes Lowe
A bit more.

First, let me say that anything regarding the "5th Alabama" can be very confusing, as there were several units called this. [i.e. 5th Infantry Battlion, 5th Infantry Regt., 5th Batt. Cavalry of Hilliard's Legion, 5th Cavalry Regt., and possibly a 5th Dragoons]
Company I of the 18th is reported as having been from Shelby County.
I can find no record of a Capt. Thomason having a company in the 5th Ala. Batt. [or the 18th, either, for that matter].
I can find no record of the 5th Batt. having ever been under a Col. Blount. A Robert Blount was a Captain (resigned) of a Sumter County company of the 5th Alabama Infantry Regiment.
