Alabama in Carolina

I'm not sure where this thread's headed, but the 3rd Alabama Cavalry was instrumental in the defense of Aiken, S.C. in February 1865. We'll never know how horrible it could've been because Wheeler and his men sent Kilpatrick running. Fighting Joe got word that the yanks were headed toward town. The general plan was to trash the town, burn Graniteville Textile mill if possible, and shell the Augusta Arsenal. Anything could've happened. It didn't however thanks to a trap laid that was unfortunately sprung a little too soon. Wheeler got away but lost his hat. The yanks took a whipping and Confederates in Aiken still remember the Alabama Cavalry with respect. Other towns in western S.C. were not so fortunate.
