Thanks for clearing that up. With that knowledge, I went to do a little more research.

At Chickamauga, Deas' Brigade routed Sheridan's Division, killing Brig. Gen. W.H. Lytle and capturing 17 cannon. However, this was at a cost of a 40% casualty rate for Deas' Brigade. Now, with that in mind, this was really no longer a brigade strength unit by the time of Missionary Ridge. After Chickamauga, in reality, it might be more accurate to call it a battalion, at least during the Missionary Ridge engagement. I don't know what size Union force was thrown at it, but it may have been overwhelmed by numbers.
