Hayes LoweA.V.C.Sun Feb 25 13:41:50 2001 Okay, now I think that I understand. The “Volunteer Militia” is the Alabama Volunteer Corps (A.V.C.). I had just never seen it referred to as the “Volunteer Militia”. These terms are used interchangeably?I can tell you that the following about Pickens County A.V.C. companies:Pickens Greys (Pickens County, Ala. Organized 1860.) - 41st Ala. Inf. Reg., Companies C and D. [Note that there was a Pickens Greys unit formed in 1863 for “home defense” that is unrelated to this one. The 1863 formed Pickens Greys was, almost to a certainty, engaged in the last Confederate victory of the Civil War.] Lane Guards (Pickens Co., Ala. Organized 4/3/1861.) – 2nd Alabama Volunteer Infantry Regiment, Co. B, later became Co. B of the 42nd Alabama Infantry Regiment.Calhoun Guards (Providence, Pickens Co., Ala.) – 11th Alabama Infantry Regiment, Co. H. [Also possibly initially Company A of the 2nd Alabama Volunteer Infantry Regiment, may have been some confusion in assignment as their were two different Calhoun Guards in the A.V.C. More research to be done on this.]Carrollton Guards (Carrollton, Pickens Co., Ala.) – 11th Alabama Infantry Regiment, Co. H. Pickens A.V.C. companies Alan J.
