Alan J. PittsMicrofilm misc. recordsSat Jan 20 21:50:07 2001 Reels 504+ of the Alabama microfilm contain numerous references to obscure units. Most of these are militia and reserves. However, there are a few hints about attempts to organize regiments and battalions late in the war. There are several paroles for men belonging to Capt. John H. Lee's Co., 20th Alabama Cavalry. Could this be the unit you've mentioned? There may be some connection to Col. Lowe's Ala. Cav. Regt., which Croxton encountered near Munford. According to Talladega paroles, some of these companies had letters. The numbering scheme doesn't make sense, either as a regiment or a battalion, but lots of things were out of kilter by that time of the war, so I'll let it go.I'd be interested in hearing from anyone who could produce an authentic muster roll or unit history for these boys.
