Demopolis was a booming rivertown. It still exists, but I don't know if it is booming.

There was a Capt. Palmer who had a company of reserves from Fayette County. It is quite conceivable that they may have been in Demopolis, about two counties south of Fayette.

I know that there was an "exchange camp" in Demopolis at the time of the fall of Vicksburg (July 1863), as that is where most of the men surrendered at Vicksburg went to await exchange.
