Looking for info on death of a soldier on 9/26/186

I am so hoping someone can help me find out when/where Charles D. Reynolds died. I know he was from the 11th Penn Cav Regiment 108 Vol.. Company K....Harlan's Light Cav.....He was mustered in 8/3/1861, and was mustered out 8/26/1864 and per the roster it states under remarks.."absent, sick at muster out, Vet" from Manchester, Va. Per his headstone information, which was provided by the government in 1879, it states he died 9/26/1984.....so he probably was sick/injured in a hospital somewhere..thus explaining his "absent, sick at muster out".... I found out that approx 400 members of the 11th PVC re-enlisted for three more years in 1864, and that included Charles.
I am from upstate NY, and that is where Charles was from; I have a small bible in excellent condition inscribed on the front page to his mother, Lucy Reynolds, Augusta, NY, Oneida County...which is right 'down the road " from me. Charles is buried in the Deansboro Cemetery (NY)along with his parents. Around that time it seems like there was fighting going on around "Chaffins Farm-New Market Heights" area.....but my quest is to find out how and where Charles died

It seems like the only(thru all my research online) place I will be able to find out this info is thru the National Archives, which is costly. I contacted a researcher/decendents on the 11th Penn Vol Cav and he suggested I post my question on this website. If anyone can help or re-direct me I would so much appreciate it.
Sue, from NY
