I ordered Military Service Records for my relative last year and got them. Was just going through them closely and find the VA Archives sent me his records for the 9th VA Cav. Regt. One of his sheets says see 20th Inf. records which tells me that he must has enlisted in the 20th VA Inf. Regt and then that unit was reorganized or disbanded and he ended up in the 9th VA Cav. Regt where he was killed in May 1862. I would have thought the Archives would have sent me all unit records pertaining to my guy. However they only sent me one unit and referred me to his first unit. Geo. Martin was able to provide me what he called a CMSR for two other brothers. I was wondering if someone could alert Geo. that I could use help coming up with the first unit of Pvt. Thomas B. Malone who most likely enlisted in the VA. 20th Inf. Regt about May 1861 as his brother Clairborne Malone did. Sorry for the call for help but I should have reviewed what the Archives sent a year ago but didn't.
