Re: 39th Battalion, Virginia Cavalry, Co., A

Dear George:

This is more information than I could have hoped for! It has been frustrating trying to find out any information on the internet. I really don't have access to "major" libraries as I live in a small town at least 100 miles from the nearest big one. I only get home once a year to Alexandria to see my elderly Mother but this relative was on my Dad's side of the family. I only got involved in the Riley family geneaology last year.

My Dad spent years ago many hours/days at Archives in DC (before computers were invented) and got as much as he could. Pay and parole documents. My father is now deceased. Most of his family is also deceased. Diptheria ran rapid through Greenwich/Manassas in the late 1800's, early 1900's so he was the only living male relative to inherit the pistol, holster, saddle bag and horse collar from his great Aunt. My nephew is slated to receive this when my mother passes on as we had no brothers.

I hope to be able to go to the Library of Virginia in Richmond later in the fall. I want to be able to give as much information to my nephew so he will be able to appreciate the inheritance and family history!

Once again, my thanks!!!!
