Just a followup to your post. I was so caught up in the fact that the Thornrose pamphlet stated "JM Johnson Co A" that I completely overlooked that it also recorded JM Johnson was in the "29th Regiment GA Infantry". After more research, I have determined that the 29th GA was posted in Savannah, GA and Charleston SC until early 1863 when it was combined with the 30th GA under Walker's Brigade and were involved in the Tennessee Campaign in defense of Atlanta GA. They fought at Chickamauga and other major north GA battles.

In my opinion, no way this JM Johnson could be part of that unit.
