LEFLER, JAMES D.: Pvt., Co. E. Enl. 3/7/62, Salem, Roanoke County. Present in unit 8/7/62. MWIA, "in abdomen" or thigh, Cedar Run, 8/9/62. William Hammond, E/42nd Va., named J. Lefler in his diary as being mortally wounded while “In hands of Enemy.” Hospitalized, thigh wound, Charlottesville 8/14/62. Died there of wounds that same day.
