Re: 4th Virginia Infantry - Seeking a Roster/Info
In the book, The Civil War Letters of Dr. Harvey Black, ed. by Glenn L. McMullen, Baltimore: Butternut and Blue, 1995, p. 55, is a letter from Dr. Black to his wife dated 19 July 1863, in which he describes the battle of Gettysburg. He writes, "Ed [Ed Peck] says he was close to Andrew Hoge when he was killed and that he [Hoge] had one of his legs cut off near his body by a shell."
