The color bearer of the 1st VA killed at Gettysburg was 17 year old William Mitchel, son of the Irish patriot John Mitchel. William was born ca. 1845 and was educated in France, as a young student, prior to moving to VA in the latter 1850's. His final resting place is unknown, but it is most likely Hollywood Cemetery in Richmond, VA. I have an extensive file on the 1st VA as part of my ongoing study of burials in Hollywood Cemetery.
