Thanks for the insight into the conditions surrounding my friends letter. It does help to understand the background. I didn't mean to infer that Mr. Nicholson found the situation the nation was in was humurous. Perhaps he needed to enjoy a minute of humor with a close friend as an escape from the pressures he (as well as others) was under.
