The answer is yes. The Battle of Giles Court House, on May 10, 1862. There were other small engagements and skirmishes throughout the region during the war, but the battle of May 10, 1862 is most worthy of note. Giles County figured in the Kanawha Campaigns of 1861 and September, 1862 also. Forces moving in and out of West Virginia, tended to use Giles Gounty as a corridor.
