I recently helped my Sons of the American Legion post place flags on veterans graves at a local cemetery. I think they are unaware of many military veterans buried there simply because they have to rely on information from tombstones which is far from foolproof. I have started doing some research on burials with birth dates in the proper time period for civil war service and I have one that I need help with. He is William Travis Earnest 1833-1904. He was born and raised in Alabama and married there in 1865. If he served, which I assume he did, it was probably in an Alabama unit. Does anybody have access to records that may help prove or disprove his confederate service.
