On Sept 10th 1864.... The 26th Va along with the rest of Wises Brigade was reported in the lines on the far Left of the Confederate defense lines between the Appomattox River and the City Point RR.... The next reports are on Sept 24th and 27th 1864, they were still in the same location.... Oct 2nd 1864 it was relieved from that spot and placed in reserve...

On Sept 11th 1864, as mentioned they were in the trench lines beside the Appomattox River.... This is actually only a short walking distance from Blandford Cemetery.... As previously mentioned where he most likely is buried... along with over 30K others from the siege.... most of which are not identified.... regardless of where their placement in the lines were.

There are tens of thousands of descendants that would love to know exactly where their respective ancestor is buried that lost their lives at Petersburg.... Unfortunately the majority will never know this... Both Confederate and Federal.... Records either did not survive... and in many cases simply were not recorded to begin with...

Unlike many other battles... whereas the opposing forces strike... then move off... the burial details come in and do their work after the firing has ceased..... At Petersburg... the firing didn't cease... less for short few hours at times under temporary flag of truce to gather up the dead from between the lines...... Again that period of the siege was quite miserable... death, destruction and desertion was a daily affair.... Desperation and despair for the living... very little attention able to be provided by that time for the dead.... gathered up, sent off and hastily buried.... and the rest try to survive another day...

I live in the region and do programs at Petersburg frequently. I'm very familiar with the siege and the actions thereof. You are amongst thousands that have also sought the same thing.... to little avail for the same reason and circumstances...... may have to realize that the specific records and details that you seek just may not exist...
