Alan, The problem I have with the four regiments of cavalry that became the Ross Brigade, it seems that many over 35 and all under 18 went back to Texas in May 1862 except for a few good liers. Some young soldiers who were near 18 followed on until they qualified. The rest along with several colonels returned to Texas with the horses as these units were dismounted by Van Dorn. When the horses were called back in October of 1862 many replacements and a few of those released returned. After Corinth, they were not to picky about replacements.
