Re: Battalions of Texas State Troops

Mr Stevens,

Can you tell me the date of your ancestor's first enlistment in the 4th Regt., 28th Brigade? Was it before the reorganization of the militia in December 1861 or after? I'm guessing the latter as the 28th Brigade prior to the reorganization comprised 2 regiments taken from the counties of Falls, Coryell, McLennan, Bosque, Comanche, Brown, Hamilton, Eastland, Callahan, Coleman, Taylor, Runnels and Hill. Therefore there probably wasn't a 4th Regiment at that time. I have no regimental info for the 28th Brigade (under Brig.Gen. John S. Scofield) after the reorganization. (it comprised the same counties). Do you have any further info on the regiments of the 28th Brigade?

Regarding his second enlistment, the militia brigades and regiments had been effectively abolished by March 1864 by the formation of the six brigade districts. All the above counties were in the 2nd Brigade District under Brig.Gen. John S. Griffith. Do you have any other info on this 1st Regiment?
