I have seen something, In OR I think where 500 head of cattle were driven from North East Texas, (Marshall area I thought,) to Vicksburg (Down I - 20) and swam the Mississippi River in about October 1862. (River must have been very low.)
I have something where one volunteer from Vicksburg went to Texas and assisted.
After they got them here, many starved, they had nothing but corn to feed them and tehy would not eat it.

I thought everyone would know that Cattle cannot digest corn in the kernel.
Yes, today, many, many cattle are fattened by corn, but first it must be ground or crushed or something. Cattle Digestive system will not break down corn in the kernel, it will pass on through to animal.
