Abraham Baggett
Enrolled, Aug 1852; Died at home, May 21, 1864; Phthitis Pulmonalis (Tuberculosis, Consumption);
Apparently he suffered for a long time. “Testimony of his physician
After some correspondence and work, Mary finally got approved for the pension. It took many letters from the doctors, friends, relatives and his commanding officer. I don’t know what part of the letter from the Capt of Co. C ( “Phthitis Pulmonalis and bleeding from the lungs”) the govt did not understand. It seems they gave the Vets and wife’s a hard time. That hasn’t changed much. Ha!
April 1869 Mrs. Mary J Baggett, granted $8.00 month.
Testimony of his attending physician shows that he returned home on furlough in June 1863, suffering with the same disease that he had said furlough extended from time to time until his death May 21, 1864 and that he was a stout healthy and sound man before enlistment. His captain testifies that he died at the same time (? Cant read this word) - contracted at Jackson Tennessee in February 1864 while in his line of duty. Furlough shows granted from May 22 to June 12, 1863
