Mark, Your ancestor was rejected on account of having too much property. The Harris Co. state and county assessor had him listed with a homestead with an assessed value of $2550 and other property real or personal of$1175. He wrote a letter to Pension Commissioner J.C. Jones telling him he did not understand since his name did not appear on the tax rolls of Harris Co. or any other county in this state. There is more but he closes the letter by saying With my sincere best wishes for your health and happiness. I am yours truly, J. W. Tinkler

If you get a chance you should order or go get a copy. Even when rejected they still often have a wealth of info. In this case the witnesses as to his service were all very complimentary. You can order on line or take a short hop to the state Library and Archives . Best Regards Charlie Peal.
