One "G.W. Elder" is listed in Sims' 9th Cavalry, Company E, and died in Jackson, Mississippi on May 23, 1862. ..I think this was the same person as "Grey Elder" listed in Capt. George Brem's July 1861 Red River County TX militia. ... This "G.W. Elder" was not listed in Stephen Kirk's A THOUSAND TEXANS, MEN OF THE 9TH TEXAS CAVALRY.

This "Grey W. Elder" may have been closely related to the "Andrew J. Elder" found in the 1860 Titus County cen p218.
