Willis' Battalion Texas Cavalry served in the Department of Mississippi and East Louisiana, fought with Forrest in Western Tennessee and Kentucky however serving for the most part under and with Robert "Black Bob" McCulloch's 2nd Missouri Cavalry. Willis' Battalion was primarily in Mississippi in 1864 and was assigned to the District of the Gulf, Dept of Ala., Miss,. and East Louisiana in the defense of Mobile and Selma Alabama toward the end of the war, seeing action mostly in Alabama but with action also in Mississippi and Georgia. In February 1865 they were with Ross' Texas Brigade still fighting in and about Selma,Alabama until the Confederates surrender at Citronelle, Alabama on May 4,1865.
