Smith Benjamin Hindman, also known as "Sam" Hindman, is referenced in the Polk County Historical Commission (Livingston, TX) "There Never Were Such Men Before", as well as Texas CSA pension records. Interesting are the references to his being "assigned to take care of horses" and his apparent AWOL status in 1863, as there are facinating family stories which correspond to these pieces of data.
