James W Barnes was the Colonel of the 4th Infantry Regiment, Texas State Troops (The TST were state Militia and not a part of the Confederate States Army) The Texas State Archives may have the muster rolls for this unit. Walton may have enrolled in the 4th Mounted Vols, but he was not taken into CSA serves because of age,health or etc. The TST enrolled any male with a heartbeat. The 4th Infantry TST may have served as guards at Camp Groce, POW camp outside of Hempstead. Colonel Barnes was in command of the camp in1863-64
