San Antonio Prisoner Release

In late summer/early fall, 1862, a detatchment of California troops who had marched to New Mexico to blunt a Confederate invasion (or re-invasion) recon'd in the Trans-Pecos area and, among other things, captured some ill/infirm Rebels in or near Franklin (El Paso.) Gen. James Carlton arranged to have them paroled in San Antonio and provided an escort and wagons to take them there.

Information about this is in the OR (Ser. 1, Vol. 50), but is rather hard to sort out. Does anyone know if this incident has ever been researched or if there are any independent sources about it? I'd be particularly interested in information about the Federal troops that transported them to SA or if there is any information about the individuals involved.

Did this group include the Showalter Party members (17 or 18) whose capture was discussed in another recent thread?
