I am looking for further information about my ancestor, John W. HERNDON (in 1860 a listed resident of Precinct 1, Dallas, TX). I list the information found so far on Ancestry.com below - is there any way anyone could recommend finding out more about any further specifics of his records? I would appreciate any advice.

According to the Index to Compiled Confederate Military Records as shown on Ancestry.com he enlisted a Corporal in Company A, of the36th TX Cav (Woods).

It also lists the following information about his record from "US Civil War Soldiers" from the National Park Service:
